A few MORE cards for Easter

Hi folks, another quick post for tonight (to my sweetie - if you are reading this....close it now...no peeking since once of these cards is for you!)

While I was making the cards in the previous post, I decided to put together three more since I had the images coloured and the papers out anyway.

card details:
  • finished size: 4.25 x 5.5 inches, kraft cardstock base
  • patterned papers: Basic Grey "Hopscotch" (card3), My Mind's Eye Lime Twist "Life of the Party" (cards 1 and 2)
  • stamps: Verve "Bunny Shake""Egg-stra Special". The images are all coloured with Copics. The brown bunny is coloured with E21, E23, E25. The white bunny is coloured with W00, W0. The chick in the egg is coloured with W0, W00, Y38, Y00, Y02, Y04, Y06. Oh...and the bunnies have white Fun Flock from CTMH on their tails...you probably can't see that in the photos.
Thanks for stopping by! Hope your weekend is turning out to be fabulous!

Viva La Verve - April Week 1

Hi folks,

I managed to get into the craft room today to work on a few more Easter cards. I decided to use the sketch from Week 1 of the April Viva La Verve Challenges over at Splitcoaststampers.

Another fairly clean and simple layout! My kind of style...worked out great for making four more Easter cards with some new (to me) Verve!

I kept the first three with a portrait oreintation, switching up the papers and stamps so they would each be different.

And for the last one, I switched to a landscape orientation.

If you if you click on one of the chocolate bunny cards to "embiggen" the picture, you might notice the texture of his fur. I achieved this with a neat trick I learned from Tanya - putting some Copic Colorless blender solution on a terry cloth and holding it for a few seconds on the image after it has been coloured.

card details:

  • finished size: 4.25 x 5.5 inches, kraft cardstock base
  • patterned papers: Basic Grey "Hopscotch" (cards 1 and 4), My Mind's Eye Lime Twist "Life of the Party" (cards 2 and 3)
  • stamps: Verve "Bunny Shake", "Egg-stra Special". The images are all coloured with Copics. The brown bunny is coloured with E21, E23, E25. The white bunny is coloured with W00, W0. The chick in the egg is coloured with W0, W00, Y38, Y00, Y02, Y04, Y06.

Masculine birthdays for Mojo 234

hi folks!

first off -- I am so excited I need to shout it from the rooftops! I was the big winner for the March Viva La Verve challenges over at SCS!!!! Woo hoo!!!!! A $100 shopping spree for my fave stamps for clean and simple, no colouring required cards! Shut the front door! I'm really hoping I don't have to spend it right away because, honestly, I topped up my "collection" a couple of months ago and I might have a hard time spending it all right now. I know, sad situation to be in huh?   :)  who am I kidding? LOVE IT!!!!!

And, speaking of Verve - guess what stamps I used on my cards for the Mojo Monday challenge this week? Yeah, no need to guess. VERVE!!!!

So...here's the Mojo Monday sketch this week....round or square....I went with square of course.

And made these two masculine birthday cards for a couple of birthdays next week

card details:

  • finished size: 5.5 x 5.5 inches square, one card has CTMH Cocoa cardstock base, the other has kraft cardstock base
  • patterned papers and brads: Bo Bunny Cambridge (which, if I am not mistaken, found their way into my collection courtesy of my dear friend Tanya)

March 2012 Viva La Verve - Week 4

Hi folks,

well, I did spend a few more hours in the craft room this afternoon and did my cards for the Week 4 Sketch for the March Viva La Verve Challenge.

The last sketch for the month is a CAS sketch:

And since I had not yet made my ten Christmas cards for March, I made Christmas cards! I made them all look a little different by switching up the papers, stamps, die cuts and orientation.

And three where I flipped the sketch to landscape:

card details:

  • finished size: 4.25 x 5.5 inches, kraft cardstock base
  • patterned papers: October Afternoon "Very Merry"
  • stamps: Verve "Winter Mittens", "Ornamental Christmas", "O Christmas Tree", with a few colour highlights with Copic Markers (YG25, R35, R37) and paper piecing.
  • Spellbinders: Labels Seventeen, Labels Eighteen, Labels Four

Viva La Verve March Week 3

Hi folks,

well I fell a little behind on keeping up with the March Viva La Verve sketches this month. Lucky for me I took today off to have an extra long weekend for my birthday so I have time today to hopefully catch up.

Up first is the week 3 sketch

Since I am ALSO behind on Easter cards, I decided I had better use this sketch to finally get  few made. So I did three cards

card details:

  • finished size: 4.25 x 5.5 inches, kraft cardstock base
  • patterned papers: Basic Grey Wisteria
  • stamps and die cuts: Verve (tag time, egg-stra special - first time using this set as I picked it up a few weeks ago, vintage oval die and frame, curvy bookplate die, easter joy)

Happy Unbirthday

Hi folks,

Well, it's been a few days but I am back again with a card for the last of March Madness Challenges over at The Greeting Farm. This week's theme was "Mad About Tea Parties". From the TGF blog:

Create a card or project that is tea party related. Think Alice in Wonderland-ish/ Coffee/ Hot Cocoa, Mad Hatter, even a Get-well card /w tea..think as much or as little beyond the 'cup and saucer' as you wish!

Hmmmmm.....an excellent opportunity to do another card which has been sitting in the back of my head for some time now ... "unbirthday" card! Those of you familiar with the movie "Alice in Wonderland" will probably remember the scene where Alice stumbles upon the "unbirthday" tea party.

Well, using the "Twisted Tea" digi from The Greeting Farm, I came up with this card

I went for a dramatic colour palette, the black/white/shades of grey with the intense reds for her hair and cake decorations. Kind of reminiscent of the Red Queen maybe?

I took my inspiration for the sentiment from an illustration in a very old comic book by Walt Disney called "Unbirthday Party with Alice in Wonderland". It's computer generated except for the M which is from one of my CTMH alphabet sets.

card details:

  • finished size: 5.5 x 5.5 inches, black card stock base
  • patterned paper: some REALLY old CTMH. If I am not mistaken, this is among some of the first papers I bought from CTMH many, many moons ago, back when I first got in to making cards
  • digital image: Twisted Tea from The Greeting Farm, coloured with Copic Markers (C00, C0, C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6, C7, C8, C9, R22, R24, R27, R29, R35, R37, R39, R56, R59). By way of explanation about the reds, I originally started with the R2x series but didn't like the brighter colour so I layered the others on top, to get a bluer red, well kind of burgundy really.
  • black, white and burgundy ribbon from my stash
  • gems from my stash.
  • Spellbinders Wonky Rectangles

additional challenges for this card:

So that's it for the March Madness challenges. Wish me luck! oh....for those of you who may not know what the March Madness challenge were all about..... here's the deets from the TGF blog:

What IS March Madness?
For 3 weeks in March,  we'll be going "MAD" with a few different themes!  We will draw ONE RANDOM WINNER who completes ALL THREE THEMES and the prize?
THREE SINGLES of choice or 1 single and 1 4x6 set!

But WAIT!  There's MORE!  In addition to the one random winner at the end of the 3 weeks, the DT will be choosing their "SECRET FAVES"...one from each of the THREE WEEKS.  You will all go MAD wondering who those secret faves are!
At the end of the contest, those THREE secret faves from each week's theme will be posted on our FACEBOOK page and YOU GUYS will vote to determine our MARCH MADNESS HATTER...and that is NOT a title that Jess gives up easily, LOL!
Our VOTED winner will also win THREE SINGLES of choice or 1 single and 1 4x6 set!

The three winners will be announced and voted on MARCH 28th beginning at 8am

For the local crafty peeps

For the local folks who like to get crafty - is anyone interested in a get-together at the hall in Constance Bay? Jenn has a contact who organizes all day crops. Potluck lunch, nominal fee to cover cost of hall rental. Comment/message if interested, with dates you are available if you are interested.

And really, though we all love our significant others/kids/pets - sometimes we need a break AWAY from them to really get crafty!

We're thinking about a little get-together because our usual May "Crop for the Cure" won't be held this year and we both are feeling the NEED to get crafty with some like-minded folks.

I aim to misbehave

So if you are a "Brown Coat" you know from whence comes the inspiration for this card. In fact, I specifically bought this stamp some months ago with the sole purpose of doing a "Firefly" inspired card. How timely that this week's March Madness challenge over at The Greeting Farm was to make a mono-chromatic card?

I'm pretty sure my sweetie will like it (and get the source of inspiration) when I give the card to him.

oooh...I just came up with another idea (that adds to the other idea I will actually put into play once my Sheriff Ian stamp arrives).

Anyways, I used the March 2012 SFYTT layout (seen below) for the card, modified slightly to fit a 6x6 card.

rest of the card details:

  • finished size: 6x6 CTMH Cocoa cardstock
  • patterned papers: Cosmo Cricket Wanted (again, bought several months ago to go with this stamp)
  • stamped  image: Cheeky Shooter from The Greeting Farm, coloured with Copic Markers (E000, E00, E01, E30, E31, E33, E34, E35, E37, E39), stamped in Memento Rich Cocoa
  • sentiment: "I aim to misbehave" computer generated. "Wanted" was spelled out with one of my smaller CTMH alphabets
  • Spellbinders: petite circles, deckled rectangles
  • lariat made out of twine - yes, I looked up how to tie a lariat knot (aka a honda knot) to make this card
Thanks for stopping by! Hope you are having a fabulous day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

For each petal on the shamrock

This brings a wish your way-
Good health, good luck, and happiness
For today and every day.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Here's a quick little card I put together this morning for my sweetie for St. Patrick's Day -- because, let's face it, on St. Patrick's Day, aren't we all just a little bit Irish? Technically, I'm not but I do come from the only province in Canada where St. Patrick's Day is actually a holiday - Newfoundland.

I know most of us don't have shamrock stamps (okay, I DO but I didn't want to use them AGAIN this year) or dies but most of us have do have hearts and hearts are a great for making shamrocks (3 or 4 leaf - up to you)!

card details:
  • finished size: 6x6 CTMH cardstock (I think it's Pear but not sure - I have a huge stash of CTMH cardstock - every colour and sometimes I get them mixed up).
  • patterned papers: Echo Park "Summer Days"
  • stamped sentiment: CTMH
  • 3 inch Cuttlebug Heart die cut

Viva La Verve March 2012 - Week 2

doing my best to play along with the Viva La Verve Sketches again this month. The week 2 sketch was posted last Friday, just in time for me to use it for a birthday card for my sweetie.

And here is the card - dimensions slightly modified to make a square 6x6 inch card

card details:

  • finished size: 6x6 inches, CTMH Cocoa cardstock base
  • patterned paper: Basic Grey Marjolaine, edges are distressed with my scissors
  • stamps: Verve

A Milestone Birthday

Hi folks,

well, I have come to the conclusion that I am not cut out to make cards "on request" for other people. My hat goes off to those of you who actually DO make commission pieces.

A couple of weeks ago, a co-worker asked me if I could make a card for his Mom. His guidelines were

  • she's going to be 85
  • her birthday is on St. Patrick's day (but her card doesn't need to be Patty's day related as she isn't Irish - though her name IS Patricia)
  • she doesn't like frue-frue girlie stuff (probably because she raised four sons!)
You would NOT believe how much I fretted over making the card. I finally sat down to make it this past Sunday night after delaying, delaying, delaying. I finally decided not to focus on the fact that I was asked to make the card and just made it.

This is what I came up with....

card details:

  • finished size: 6x6 inches, CTMH Cocoa cardstock base
  • patterned papers: Basic Grey Marjolaine
  • stamps: Verve
  • letter die cuts: Cuttlebug
  • brads from my stash
  • layout: Pixie Cottage Sketch #109

I hope she likes it! Thanks for stopping by.

TGF March Madness Challenge #1

Hi folks,

well, I managed to squeeze in a little more time in a busy weekend to play along with the first of the March Madness Challenges from The Greeting Farm. The theme is "Mad About You".

I'm in the middle of reading the Outlander series right now - I'm on book #3, so I was inspired to use Sassenach Anya. Now, instead of pairing her up with Laddie Ian (which I DO have), I decided to use Prince Ian instead - it was a bit easier to size the two images small enough to fit both of them onto my card.

card details:

  • finished size: 6x6 inches, kraft cardstock base
  • patterned paper: DCWV "Once Upon A Time"
  • images: digital stamps "Prince Ian" and "Sassenach Anya" from The Greeting Farm, coloured with Copic Markers. (Ian - E000, E00, E01, E93, E30, E31, E33, E53, E39, E35, E81, E84, E87. Anya - E000, E00, E01, E93, E30, E31, E33, E35, E23, R56, R59, R89, R00)
  • Cuttlebug Heart die, Spellbinders Petite Ovals
  • half-back pearls from my stash
Thanks for stopping by! Hope you are having a fantastic day!

TGF Monday Funday #23

Hi folks,

back again with a quick post for this week's Monday Funday Challenge over at The Greeting Farm. This week's theme was "Fairy Tales" - and since EVERY fairy tale has a princess, I used Princess Anya for this card - which I expect will be given to one of our nieces for her birthday this year. Notice there is even a little frog prince on the patterned paper? Just waiting for true love's kiss to break the spell!

The layout is based on last week's TGF Sketch challenge over at SCS (I didn't have time to get a card made for the sketch deadline but I liked it so decided to use it for this card).

card details:

  • finished size: 6x6 inches, white cardstock base
  • patterned papers: CTMH Daydream
  • stamped image: The Greeting Farm "Princess Anya" coloured with Copic Markers (E000, E00, E01, E93, R81, R83, R85, E30, E31, E55), with accents on the tiara and wand using my "clear star" gelly roll marker
  • EK Success scalloped scallops border punch
  • Spellbinders Petite Ovals
  • half-back pearls from my stash
Hope you are all having a fabulous day! Thanks for stopping by!

Mojo Monday 231

Hi folks,

  • patterned paper: Bo Bunny Gabrielle, edges are ink distressed
  • stamps: Verve Amazing Wishes, Big Wish, Sweet Scallop Tag (+ die cut)

March Shoebox Second Card

Hi folks,

so for my second card for our March Shoebox gathering I  used the Week 1 Sketch for the March Viva La Verve Challenge over on SCS.

Here's the sketch

and here are my cards.

For the first I stuck with the sketch - the sentiment panel is centred on the card. This is the one we actually made for the shoebox gathering.

The rest of these cards I just made up to have on hand (or to gift as a set) - I played around with the layout so they would all be different. Making sure to keep the elements the same.

For this one, I decided to line up the centre of the sentiment panel with the split between the two backing papers.

For this one I changed the orientation to landscape and changed the sentiment stamp

back to the portrait orientation, different papers.

Just switched up the colour of the sentiment panel on this one

and went with landscape for this one with the smaller panel on the bottom this time.

and with the sentiment panel in a slightly different position.

Some of these might wind up being gifted as part of card gift set for a friend, we shall see.

card details:

  • finished size: 4.25 x 5.5 inches, kraft cardstock base
  • patterned papers: Basic Grey Marjolaine
  • stamps: Verve
  • die cug: Verve Classy Label Die
  • brads from my stash

  • finished size: 4.25 x 5.5 inches, kraft cardstock base
  • patterned papers and buttons: Basic Grey Marjolaine
  • stamped sentiments: Verve "Wishing You"
  • ribbon and floss from my stash
  • Spellbinders: Labels One (Sm and Lg)

March Shoebox Gathering

Hi folks,

well today we went ahead with our March Shoebox Gathering with just two of us able to attend. Life's mishaps got in the way with a dislocated shoulder for one of the girls and a very sick child for the other. But not to fret! The two of us that went ahead are keeping the supplies set aside for our fellow crafty girls for the next gathering!

But I'm going to show you what the two of us made anyway - we decided to double-up and each brought two cards for the other to make.

Care to guess what our theme was for this month? Yep - grown-up masculine cards.

Here are close-ups of the two cards that my friend Dominique brought for me to make. Feel free to ooh and ahhh over her designs.

This first card uses papers from a wedding stack that she got at Michaels. I might have to track this one down - good masculine papers don't you think? I'm pretty sure the gears are Tim Holtz and the stamp (not sure of the manufacturer) but she got it at Heather's Stamping Haven here in Ottawa. The image was stamped twice, with the pocket watch cut out of the second image, accented with some really nice metallic paint and then popped up on dimensionals.

This second card uses more papers from Michaels. I have these in my own collection and are faves for masculine cards. I believe they are Gartner Studios - Bon Voyage. Love the old style sailing ship image. Reminds me of a replica ship called "The Matthew" that visited my home-town in Newfoundland a few years ago. I believe she also got this one at Heather's Stamping Haven. I see I am going to have to add this one to my collection (even though I have a more modern sailing ship in my own stamp collection). And there's another Tim Holtz gear...kind of looks like a ship's wheel!

I'll do separate posts for the cards I contributed for today's Shoebox Gathering - since I did them using a couple of sketch challenges that were posted this week.

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you all had a lovely weekend!
